Who am I? About Me

Few Words About Myself Nice to Meet You

My name is Manish K Malla, a documentary and portrait photographer and full time software developer based in Perth, Western Australia, with roots in Nepal. I came to photography through a simple curiosity about people. Every face carries a lifetime of stories and a single honest image can hold all of them at once. My work covers street portraits, documentary series, travel photography and community storytelling.

My images have been exhibited across Perth’s local government art awards including the City of Canning, City of Belmont and the Town of Victoria Park. Beyond competitions, I believe photography belongs in communities, which is why I created Faces of Perth, an ongoing portrait project documenting the diverse and vibrant people who call this city home.

HOW I WORK MY APPROACH

I work almost entirely on location, in the streets, markets and neighbourhoods where life actually happens. Natural light, real environments and genuine connection with my subjects are the foundation of every image I make. Perth is my home base and my primary canvas. A city of extraordinary light, quiet beaches and a community far more layered and interesting than its isolation suggests.

MY EDITING PHILOSOPHY Processing

My approach to editing is straightforward. I enhance what is already there and never fabricate what is not. Working in Adobe Lightroom, I focus on natural skin tones, honest light and preserving the atmosphere of the moment exactly as it felt. Good retouching should be invisible.

WHAT I SHOOT WITH MY GEAR

My primary camera is the Sony A7C II, a full frame mirrorless system that is compact enough to disappear in the field yet powerful enough to capture every nuance of light and expression. For me the best camera is the one that gets out of the way and lets the moment speak.
